STARTIMES CAMPAIGN TO ENHANCE DIGITAL TELEVISION UPTAKE

…company counting on its affordability to have more Kenyans access digital television…
StarTimes Media has today announced a new campaign aimed at getting more Kenyans connected to digital television. The campaign will see new subscribers access the service at Ksh3,499 fully connected to the Unique Plus bouquet which usually goes for Ksh2,500 a month.
In essence, the company’s set top boxes will be retailing at just Ksh1,000 provided they subscribe to the Unique Plus bouquet thereby making them the most affordable in the market.

The campaign is tailored to ensure the pay television service is accessible to the majority of Kenyans a good number of whom have been locked out of the digital television experience as a result of prohibitive cost of set top boxes and subscription rates. The campaign comes as the company confirmed that their digital television service are now available in up to 15 towns across the country thereby reaching both rural and urban consumers.

Acknowledging this development, StarTimes Media Kenya Chief Executive Officer Mr. Leo Lee said the new offer is a confirmation of the company’s determined efforts to have every household enjoy the exciting digital television service adding that the Kenyan people have shown great confidence with the StarTimes premium television service as confirmed by its reception by the Kenyan subscribers.

“Digital migration is inevitable and as industry players, we feel that we have a role to play in not only making set top boxes affordable but also providing world class television content as we seek to give value to the Kenyan consumer,” said Mr. Leo Lee. “Concerns have been raised over the cost of set top boxes which in reality is beyond many Kenyans, we have therefore taken it as a challenge to be at the forefront in making them affordable,” added Mr. Leo.

The new campaign will see new subscribers enjoy the Unique Plus bouquet which has a channel offering of over 70 premium television channels which includes local, international English as well as Indian channels and enabling them save Ksh 2,000. The move will enable majority of Kenyans access the digital television service ahead of the anticipated phased analogue switch off.

“We will keep providing the Kenyan public with unrivaled pay television experience while further maintaining the pocket friendly charges in an effort to make the service more accessible to the majority of Kenyans,” said Mr. Leo Lee. The company is keen on translating its success in 10 African countries here in Kenya by packaging the service within reach of both middle and low income earners.
