Ericsson’s LTE solution wins GTI award at 2013 Mobile World Congress

Ericsson has received the Best LTE TDD/FDD Converged Solutions Award under the GTI Award 2013, the inaugural Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI) Award program, at the GTI Summit being held at the on-going Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
Ericsson’s LTE TDD/FDD converged network solution, based on RBS 6000 and in full compliance with 3GPP standards, can maximize the value of spectrum resources for operators with both TDD and FDD spectrum. By combining the power of both networks, the solution benefits not only the large and growing number of mobile broadband users, but also the ICT industry as a whole. Furthermore, the economies of scale promised by the converged networks will drive the transformation of other industries such as government, entertainment, transportation, education, healthcare and energy.
During the 2013 Mobile World Congress, Ericsson supports China Mobile in demonstrating the industry’s most complete multi-vendor,multi-frequency range, end-to-end, converged ecosystem by providing a commercially verified LTE TDD/FDD converged network and making the world’s first dual mode HD VoLTE call based on multi-mode chipsets, another step forward towards the globalization of TD-LTE.
Ulf Ewaldsson, Chief Technology Officer of Ericsson said, “We are excited to be receiving this award from GTI. Interoperability is extremely important for the growth of the LTE ecosystem and forms the foundation for the Networked Society. Ericsson views TDD and FDD as two variants of the same technology and we offer solutions for both based on the same platform. We have been committed to driving the standardization and globalization of TD-LTE from the very beginning. And I’m pleased that our unwavering efforts are recognized by the industry.”
Ericsson and China Mobile Hong Kong launched the world's first commercial converged LTE FDD/TDD network together in December 2012, which is now operating in dual mode. Ericsson and China Mobile Hong Kong added TDD LTE to China Mobile's FDD LTE network. This was accomplished with seamless interworking between TDD and FDD while maintaining excellent network performance within both the TDD and FDD service domains.
The GTI Award program aims to acknowledge the success of industry players in the TD-LTE ecosystem and encourage the industry to develop innovative products and solutions that address the opportunities and challenges faced by GTI operators.
As a firm supporter of TD-LTE, Ericsson has also a clear leadership position in the LTE market, with more than 120 LTE/EPC contracts on six continents. Ericsson represents more than 50 percent of the global LTE market share by volume. Ericsson’s well-proven LTE solutions support the world’s busiest networks. It has signed contracts with 9 out of the 10 highest ranked mobile operators by revenue.
