Nairobi- Regional
retailer, Nakumatt Holdings, has confirmed plans to open its third North Rift
region branch, in Kitale town, this weekend. As part of the retailer’s regional
expansion plans, Nakumatt Kitale, is a Kshs 140million investment, located at
the new Mega Centre Mall and will be opening its doors this
Saturday morning.
Taking pride of place as the 46th Nakumatt
branch across the East African region, Nakumatt Kitale joins the Eldoret based
Nakumatt Household and Nakumatt Eldo Centre branches as the third North Rift
region branch. According to Nakumatt Holdings Managing Director Mr. Atul
Shah, who was speaking when he paid a courtesy call to the Trans Nzoia County
Governor, Patrick Khaemba, the opening of Nakumatt Kitale, now formally kicks off a project by
the firm to establish its presence at all local counties in the next five
years.
To sustain the project, Nakumatt Holdings, he said, is
currently engaging with a number of property developers across the country to
guarantee a steady supply of suitable malls in Machakos, Nyeri, Kajiado,
Garissa, Embu, Narok and Homabay in the first and second phases of the
project.Citing the lack of suitable Malls as one of the major drawbacks in
facilitating nationwide expansion, Shah expressed the firm’s commitment to
collaborate with the county governments and private sector investors to boost
the supply of such facilities.
The Nakumatt team leader said the retailer will be seeking
to enhance formal retail trade at the county level. Beyond the much needed job
creation, the project, the Nakumatt County rollout project, he said will also
provide a market platform for local produce. “Nakumatt Holdings is committed to
support county level development and through this project which could see us
register nationwide presence in the next five years,” Shah said.
“As we open our first county level outlet in Kitale
this weekend, we shall be at hand to engage with the county governments in a
partnership project geared at promoting retail access for various locally
produced products,” Shah assured. And added: “This project will involve a wide
range of skills transfer and guidance to ensure that the local produce meets
the required, quality, packaging and related standards.”
The new Nakumatt Kitale Supermarket at Mega Centre features
a range of modern retail amenities including a travelator and ample basement
parking. The supermarket presence at Mega Centre will be further complemented
by the relocation of a number of key commercials banks to the new mall. The
mall also houses a new Aga Khan University Hospital Clinic, JKUAT and Kisii
university Kitale satellite campuses.
