Award to Boost Booksellers in Kenya Search


Kenyan booksellers are set to gain from this year’s Kenya Literature Bureau’s awards following the introduction of the; “The KLB Bookseller of the Year Awards”.The first of its kind in the publishing industry is open to all booksellers who have KLB’s Booksellers Account.

According to officials, this is in recognition of the support and partnership that booksellers have given KLB over the years.The award shall be based on booksellers and bookshop dealers purchase performance every financial year during this 2010/11 Financial Year,” said Mr. Bernard Obura KLB’s Sales and Marketing Manager.

Mr. Obura noted that the awards comprise of national and regional awards which give all regions in the country equal opportunity by creating eleven regions across the country.

In addition to the existing eight provinces in the country, Nyanza and Rift Valley provinces have been split into two regions each- North and South regions.

The booksellers are to be awarded in the following categories; Bookseller of the Year (National) which is the main award trophy and a weekend holiday for two persons and certificate of achievement.

The criteria used for the main award is based on highest recorded purchases.The Bookseller of the Year first national runners-up based on the same but, second in highest recorded purchases nationally is to get a trophy and certificate same as second runners-up of third highest purchases.

Regionally, eleven Booksellers of the Year will be crowned with trophies, certificates among other goodies based on their purchases.

This award requires a minimum growth of 10 percent in the year. The award targets all booksellers on Kenya Literature Bureau’s customer list. For the category, a bookseller must have traded with KLB for more than 12 months with minimum sales of Ksh.1 million in the last financial year with up-to-date accounts.
